More Than Dessert: The Story Behind Tatiana Hoge Kitchen
More Than Dessert: The Story Behind Tatiana Hoge Kitchen
For me, baking didn’t begin as a business.
It began with family.
Food has always been a part of my family’s life. My father worked in the restaurant industry, and somehow that love for creating something delicious for other people was passed down to me. Long before Tatiana Hoge Kitchen existed in Florida, I was already baking, experimenting, creating, and discovering how much happiness could come from something made by hand.
While I was still living in Russia, that passion slowly became something more serious.
I began creating my own desserts and custom cakes, and eventually built my first small baking brand, “Tanyusha’s Cakes.” What started in my kitchen grew into orders for birthdays, weddings, celebrations, corporate events, and other special occasions.
But some of the desserts I remember most were never made to be sold.
I participated in charitable events and prepared desserts for children with cancer, children with cerebral palsy, and children with developmental disabilities. I also supported community events, concerts, weddings, and celebrations as a sponsor.
Those experiences taught me something I still believe today:
Food can be a way of giving.
Sometimes it is a wedding cake celebrating the beginning of a family. Sometimes it is a small dessert that makes a child smile. Sometimes it is simply something beautiful waiting for you after a difficult week.
Then life brought me to America.
I had a new country, a new language, new rules, and a completely different food industry to understand. But one thing hadn’t changed: I still wanted to create.
That desire eventually became Tatiana Hoge Kitchen.
Why European desserts?
After moving to the United States, I often found myself wanting to walk into a local café and discover the desserts I remembered — something layered, delicate, interesting, and distinctly European.
Not simply something sweet.
Something with character.
That is one reason desserts such as Medovik, the traditional layered honey cake, are becoming an important part of where I want to take Tatiana Hoge Kitchen. And in the future, you may find other European classics, including Napoleon cake, appearing in my collection.
At the same time, I love experimenting with flavors people here already know and love and giving them my own interpretation.
It is a meeting of two worlds: the European flavors that are part of my story and the Florida community that is now home to my business.
You Don’t Just Buy Dessert. You Buy a Feeling.
This may be the most important part of my philosophy.
When someone comes to a farmers market, they aren’t coming only because they need food.
They are looking.
They are discovering.
They want to see something beautiful, find something they haven’t tried before, talk to the person who made it, bring something home for their family — or simply treat themselves.
They are buying an experience.
The packaging matters. The presentation matters. The story matters.
But then comes the most important moment: opening that package at home and tasting what is inside.
That’s when the experience has to become real.
I want someone to look at one of my desserts and think, I have to try that.
And after the first bite, I want them to think, I’m coming back.
The Next Chapter
Tatiana Hoge Kitchen is still growing.
I’m continuing my professional food-safety education and working toward expanding production through a commercial kitchen. That next step will allow me to create an even wider collection of desserts, including products that require refrigerated creams and more traditional European techniques.
There is still a great deal ahead of me.
And that’s exactly what makes this chapter so exciting.
I believe people should try to build something around what they genuinely love and what they know how to give to others.
For me, that happens to be dessert.
Because maybe making someone happy doesn’t always require something enormous.
Sometimes happiness is a beautiful little box you carry home from a Saturday market.
And sometimes, it’s simply one really good piece of cake.
Welcome to Tatiana Hoge Kitchen.
European inspiration. Florida spirit. Made to create a little happiness.
